Our Alpacas are huacaya alpacas. The staple length of their fiber is 3-5 inches.  We have 10 in our herd with colors ranging from very light fawn to black. They are shorn annually in May here on the farm. After sorting through the fiber, the majority of it is sent to a mill to be processed into yarn. We keep about a quarter of it to hand-process here at Fiber Beast. This includes picking, washing/drying, combing or carding, and spinning it into yarn.

It is our experience that alpaca yarn works well for garments such as sweaters, shawls, scarves, vests, and throw blankets. The fibers are fine and soft and require a little extra attention when washing. Instructions for the care and maintenance can be found in the yarn description in the store.
